How to modify your sim card to fit into the iPad 3G – reposted by Andre DiCioccio

Seems a crafty user by the name of “Melech518″ over on the Modmyi forums has figured out a way to “mod” (see cut) his sim card to fit inside of his iPad 3G and get it working on the 3G network without having to activate a new plan. As of now it has been confirmed working on ATT and T-mobile (edge only) in the states and Rogers for our neighbors up north. *UPDATE: Also appears to be working for Smart in the Philippines and BELL’s 3G network.

Seems straightforward enough. First grab your exacto and trace out the mini-sim on top of your existing one.

Then cut out following the outline exactly.

Use discretion here. If you do it carefully enough, according to Melech, you will be able to switch back and forth between the iPad and your existing phone if need be.

Once the SIM is in the iPad you need to enter Settings->Cellular Data->APN Settings

Change the APN to “phone” without quotations.

If you have a SIM with a larger grid area then the one on the micro, you might want to speak with your carrier about grabbing a newer SIM card with the smaller grid area.

I highly recommend looking over THIS thread over on the modmyi forum before trying this as you can find all the latest information on this hack there.
